Tournament Overview
The tournament will consist of 7 rounds. All participants will play the first 6 rounds. The top 4 competitors will move on to the Final Four (round 7).
Setting up for Rounds 1-6
Prior to the first round, the table arrangements will be set according to the number of participants.
Rounds 1-6 will each be conducted in the same manner. During the tournament briefing, the genres order will be chosen randomly. One randomly selected game within that genre will be assigned to each table. Everyone will be given a randomly selected number representing their position at the associated table (see Table Arrangements).
Games may have alternate rules such that they fit into the game time limit of 45 minutes. Most rounds are scheduled to take an hour with time allotted for instructions and transitions. Some rounds will last as long as necessary for all games to complete. Games with expected turn delays will have provided sandtimers to speed up the play. Some shorter games may be played multiple times with combined scores from each time determining the winner of the round at that table.
Scoring Rounds 1-6
Each table will determine everyone's place in the game (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.). Games may have alternate rules to minimize the chances of ties. Each person receives the appropriate number of points based on their place and the number of people at their table. In the event of a tie, the players will split the points for the tied positions. For example, if a table has 4 players and the second and third placed players tie, then the first place player will receive 13 points. The second place and third place players will each receive 7 points, and the last place player will receive 1 point.
The Final Four
After rounds 1-6, the top 4 participants will compete in the Final Four. In this special round, the four participants will be paired into two two-player games (1st vs. 4th and 2nd vs. 3rd). The winner of each of these matches will play against each other in a final game. At the beginning of each game, each participant ranks the games that they want to play from the list of possible Abstract Strategy games. The best possible match will be selected for each game, and the 1st/4th game will be selected first. No abstract strategy game will be played in more than one of the final four games. If either competitor in each game desires a practice round, then a practice round MUST be played for that game. The practice round does not count in the competition.
