Something that makes me happy: I’m glad that I decided to go to WWDC this year (and even managed to get a ticket). This was my first work trip in more than 12 years! I am not sure why it took me so long to go on another one!

Something I’m thinking: The kids seem so much louder to me after a week away, especially since I’m tired and not quite adjusted to the time zone.

Something I’m reading: I finished The Snow Child for June’s book club. I liked it well enough, but I was disappointed. I started and finished both Ender’s Game (which was great, but not quite as legendary as everyone else thinks) and Defending Jacob. Defending Jacob is another book club choice, and I was disappointed by it as well. It just didn’t work for me. I’m reading Happy Chaos now.

Something Gabe is reading: Gabe finished Old Man’s War and started and finished Assassin’s Apprentice and Molly Fyde and the Parsona Rescue. He’s on the second Molly Fyde book now.

Something I’m watching: Vampire Weekend and They Might Be Giants concerts while in San Francisco!

Something I’m playing: Letterpress, one of the design winners at WWDC.

Something I’m creating: I need to be writing up the NYC trip, but I haven’t had a chance just yet. I have sorted through the photos, at least.

Something tasty: Oh I wouldn’t even know where to begin…the food this week was great! We ate at fancy schmancy restaurants every night. Yum!

Something about both kiddos: When I asked Gabe what the kids did this week while I was gone, he said, “whined a lot.” I’m not sure that’s different from other weeks. I think they missed me, but probably not as much as I would like to think that they did! I sure missed them, especially by the end of the week when I was tired and ready to be home. Both kids had their class pictures the week before I left for San Francisco, and I’m eager to see how they turned out. We had their photos taken together as well, and I have no idea if that was a success. I do remember Cullen was crying the whole way to school on picture day, so I just hope his face isn’t red and puffy. We did some of our kiwi crate crafts yesterday. They made bird nests, decorated bird eggs, and stamped their recycled bags. Cullen made his lantern from this month, but Maddie lost her privilege, so she hasn’t made hers yet. The kids saw a very small snippet of Empire Strikes Back (the part with Yoda in the swamp), and suddenly they are big fans of Star Wars.

Something Maddie is doing (5 years old): Maddie isn’t making as much progress as we would like with her swimming lessons. She doesn’t want to let go of the instructor as she feels she will “sink,” and the instructor doesn’t seem to be encouraging her to let go quite enough. What we really need is private (or even semi-private) lessons. I don’t know if she’s going to make much more progress without better one-on-one attention. We will see how the rest of these lessons go. We are signed up for another 8 session set after this one, but I am starting to wonder if it’s going to be worth it. Maddie had her preschool graduation picnic last week. The little kids looked adorable in their graduation caps. They sang two songs in French and another song or two with the regular music teacher. Maddie is definitely not comfortable with performing in front of a crowd. She hides in the back row and barely moves her mouth when it is time to sing. Last week, Maddie had “kindergarten camp” at school. Each day, they did some group lessons and exercises like they will be doing in kindergarten. The most exciting thing about “kindergarten camp” is that the graduates get to bring their lunch to school. Maddie was beyond excited about that part, and she planned out her lunch for over a week. I remember it being a big deal last year when the graduates brought their lunches. We went to the kindergarten orientation at the school, and Maddie visited a classroom last week. After our classroom visit, I took her to a make-your-own frozen yogurt type place. Her first day during staggered entry week is July 11th. She started doing an annoying baby voice from watching too much Caillou. Before I left for my trip, Maddie said, “I like your hair because it has dark brown like chocolate!” She’s had some bedtime regressions, and we have a harder time getting her to bed (and keeping her there all night). I’m sure that the upcoming changes are causing some anxiety for her. She’s riding her bike with ease now. Her friend gave her a graduation present of three books, and she has wanted to read them each night. Two of them are about kindergarten/school and one is about filling other people’s happiness buckets.

Something Cullen is doing (3 years old): Cullen has been very into things that give him various powers. For a while, he was often “baby spider.” He still plays that he is various baby animals, but lately he’s more into having “Star Wars” powers and running around slashing light sabers or punching the air with his powers. He is quite the super hero. He’s also very into Angry Birds (especially Star Wars Angry Birds). He wants to play them on the iPad, but he also wants to pretend to play “Angry Birds” or “Star Wars” and gets upset when his sister doesn’t want to pay these things. While I was gone, he told his teachers that “Mommy will be home in two breakfasteses.” I was able to FaceTime with them while I was gone, and Cullen spent the whole time blowing me kisses (well that and asking if he can play Angry Birds).

Something I am struggling with: I really need to get back to photobooking…I am pretty sure I want to make a small one of my WWDC trip. Then there’s the small one for the Disney trip with Audrey over a year ago, 2011′s (large) book, 2012′s (large) book, Disney October 2012′s (large) book, and NYC’s (large) book. Getting a bit behind here…

Something I learned: I learned about the new stuff coming in iOS 7…lots of stuff to do in our app!

Something I’m looking forward to: We have several appointments this week, the usual swimming lessons, and this month’s kiddo book club.

Something captured: I just got checked in! I was pretty excited to be there…
