Still Too Much Television

February 12th, 2009

We have dropped a ton of shows since my original post at the beginning of the Fall season. We still feel like we have a few too many shows.

Here are the shows that we are watching:
90210: Gabe doesn’t watch this one at all, and I typically only pay half attention to it. This is a good one for me to watch when Gabe is rocking Maddie to sleep or watching a game in the other room due to two shows being recorded at the same time on our main TV. I always have to have my guilty pleasure shows.

The Amazing Race 14: This starts on Sunday, and we definitely plan to watch it! We watched season 13 in the Fall. Only problem with these is that I feel like I have to watch them the night that they aired, though the chances of me hearing who got booted are slim to none. It used to happen frequently when I would turn the Today show on in the morning before going to work.

Chuck: I love this show! This is definitely one of my current favorites.

Dollhouse: This one starts on Friday. As a Joss Whedon fan, I better give it a shot. I have several friends still giving me a hard time for not watching all of Firefly yet. It’s on my list. Maybe this summer? I think I said that last year…

Gossip Girl: Another guilty pleasure, but at least Gabe also watches this one. The dynamics have changed quite a bit, and it will be interesting to see how they are going to set it up so that it can continue after this season. Or maybe it’s all based on the books, which i haven’t read, and the set up just follows the books? Hrm, maybe I should read the books?

Grey’s Anatomy: Still a fan of this one, though I’m not sure if I enjoy it as much as I used to enjoy it. I have thought that the ghost Denny was about the dumbest thing that they have done on this show, and they come up with some outlandish medical issues. Also, I know it’s one of the core conflicts of the show, but can’t we just have Meredith and Derek get together and stay happy? I’m sure they can find plenty of other conflicts, right? I know, it’s one of those things that can’t happen…but can’t it? I get tired of those things dragging on and on and on…

Hell’s Kitchen: The new season of this just started, and we haven’t gotten into it too deep just yet. I haven’t been paying too close attention, but it’s good to have shows like this where I can organize photos and watch at the same time.

Jeopardy: We haven’t been watching this at all. Too many other things to watch, but I’m still not dropping it. We have it set to save only 5 episodes of this at one time.

Lost: I’m still enjoying this one! I plan to finish out this series - one more season?? While I started a little late, I feel like I’ve been watching it from the beginning. I have felt like this season is starting off better than last season.

Privileged: Hrm, it appears that I have at least 3 series this year that fall into the category of “guilty pleasures.” Megan annoys me sometimes. She can be a bit mean and stupid with her family, friends, employer, and boyfriends.

Reaper: This one hasn’t started yet - it is supposed to start in March. We started to lose interest somewhat last season, so we’ll see how long we hang onto this one.

We enjoyed the following, but we’ll have to decide if it is worth buying HBO again since we didn’t use it for much else (this makes for one expensive show!). We’ll definitely get HBO for the George R. R. Martin series, whenever that is going to start…
True Blood: Since this is based on a series that I have read (hrm, though I’m a few books behind on the series), I definitely wanted to watch it. I enjoyed it. I didn’t remember much of what happened in the books, but apparently the show is somewhat loosely based on the books anyway. I wouldn’t mind watching the next season (assuming there will be one), but I’m not sure I want to pay for HBO when it is the only thing on HBO that we watch.

We are way behind on this one, and don’t know if we’re going to continue:
Heroes: I have been watching this one from the beginning, so it is a difficult decision for us to make regarding whether to drop it or not. I like the idea of sticking with a show from beginning to end. If we didn’t have a baby, I’m sure we would keep watching it with no question…but we just don’t have time for everything. We haven’t deleted it from our box yet, but we are about 5 or 6 episodes behind.

The following shows have been canceled:
Dirty Sexy Money: I think we would have kept this one, but I’m not heartbroken when shows are canceled these days. It just means less shows that we feel obliged to watch, ha! I did like this show, and I’m a little sad that it was canceled.

Three Sheets: I’m not sure if the show was canceled, but the entire channel is gone now. Gabe watched this one sometimes, but I don’t think he kept up with each episode. He just watched it when I wasn’t available to watch something with him, like when I’m gone to book club.

Since my revisited post where we dropped 5 shows, we have additionally dropped these (some I admitted that we weren’t really watching anyway in that post):
Damages: Decided we didn’t have the motivation to get into it this season. We enjoyed it last year, but we just have too much to watch. We decided to stop recording it before finishing the first episode.

Don’t Forget the Lyrics: We just didn’t think about it.

Family Guy: We also didn’t think about this one.

Fringe: We liked this one, but fell really behind on our episodes. We just decided to drop it. If it gets good enough, we can always Netflix the episodes.

High Stakes Poker: Haven’t thought about this one, though it would be a decent one to record since we don’t have to pay close attention.

House: I was sad about dropping this one, but we were always way behind on the episodes and never really seemed to have the motivation to watch.

Jon & Kate Plus 8: This was a filler show, and we just don’t need filler these days!

Private Practice: After watching the half season from last year, we still weren’t invested in the characters. We started watching this one at the beginning of the Fall, but decided it just wasn’t worth keeping on our roster. We are recording this week’s crossover episode, just in case there’s something interesting relevant to Grey’s Anatomy. I watched over half of last week’s episode and realized that we’ve missed a lot!

Dollhouse sounds interesting. I like Joss Whedon. Have you ever seen Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog? Whedon created it for internet only release during the writer’s strike. It’s cute.

I’m not really watching Grey’s Anatomy either anymore. Like you, i am sick of the Meredith & Derek thing being so drawn out. And Ghost Denny (and ghost sex!!?!?) was just… nuts.

Lost still hooks me though! (-:
