Maddie’s First Swimming Lesson
September 9th, 2008I took swimming lessons starting from a very early age, about Maddie’s age. My mom claims that I was able to swim to the side of the pool and grab onto the side of the pool by the time I was 8 months old. Gabe thinks that my mom might be exaggerating a little, but I was still quite young! I knew that I wanted to take “Mommy & Me” type swimming classes with Maddie as early as I could. Most places around here start those at 6 months. I was very excited about the classes, and Maddie’s gal pal Caroline was going to be taking them with her, too.
Her first lesson was tonight. Right away, I was noticing the lack of babies around the pool. I thought that was a good thing – more private attention for Maddie and Caroline! Unfortunately, they need to have at least 3 babies in the class in order to conduct the lessons. Maddie and Caroline were the only babies enrolled in the class. They said we could have this one lesson and gave us some options (we took the refund option and will look for another class). I was glad that we could have the first lesson, but then our lesson was cut short by a lightning storm. How disappointing! And to make matters worse, Gabe couldn’t get close enough to get good photos during Maddie’s lesson.
I thought it was fun, and I plan to find another class for her. We played with some toys in the pool and did some kicking exercises on her stomach and her back. We used a kick board which Maddie held onto fiercely while I helped her kick. Pretty cute!
Here are a few mediocre photos from our swimming lesson.
Maddie warmed up for her swim lesson with some yoga in her carseat:

How cute! I hope you find another class soon. I think swimming is a good skill to teach young. I also learned young, and am very comfortable in the water. I have to admit i look at people who can’t swim a little strangely. I know it’s not their fault; it’s just that they are a little like aliens to me!
