Seattle Day 3 / Cruise Day 1
September 22nd, 2007
We had a little time in the morning to do our last bit of touring of Seattle, so we headed to Pike Place Market where we planned to have breakfast at The Crumpet Shop. It was here that we discovered the answer to the burning question…what is a crumpet? Turns out that crumpets are tasty! We decided that crumpets are what English muffins are attempting to be.
Here’s my tasty crumpet with peanut butter and jam:

We walked around Pike Place Market for a little bit, and then we headed back to our hotel. We were excited to board our ship! We gathered our luggage and hailed a cab back to the port. Boarding the ship was fairly easy. It didn’t take us too long to get through the line and onto the ship. We found our room, enjoyed our buffet lunch, and explored the ship. Our luggage arrived early…hours later others were still waiting for their luggage to arrive in their staterooms.
And of course we had to buy the first photo that they took of us:

After exploring the ship a bit, we found a spot by the rock climbing wall to watch Seattle disappear as we disembarked. It was raining a little when we left, but we didn’t care too much – we were excited! We then had to report to our Muster Station for the safety drills. Here we are at Muster Station 4:

We had the late seating for dinner which didn’t start until 8:30pm, so we knew we needed to grab a bite to eat before dinner. We had our first dinner in the Solarium where they have burgers, hot dogs, pizza, fries, and such pretty much all day. Gabe and I both enjoyed a slice of salmon pizza. YUM! We explored a bit more around the ship and found the Library where they post casual meetings and the Card Room where quite a few of these meetings take place. Gabe and I played a game of Scrabble with a set that had an interesting distribution of letters (like twice as many I’s as normal and no X). We went to the Welcome Aboard show which was cheesy but still somewhat entertaining. The entire audience played Simon Says and I was one of the winners. Good times.
We then went to dinner and met our tablemates. They all seemed nice, and both couples were from the Seattle area. We started to get to know everyone, and by the end of the week we were really getting along with both couples. We had fun this week hanging out with new friends. After dinner, we spent a little bit of time in the casino and then retired to our stateroom.
Stay tuned for Cruise Day 2…
