Seattle – Day 1
September 18th, 2007We have a bunch of photos to go through from our trip…but I thought that I would bore you first with a day by day account of our trip with a few photos so that you get a little preview before we post the whole lot of them.
Our flight left RDU around 1pm with a short layover in Atlanta and expected arrival in Seattle by 4:30pm (PCT, of course). The leg to Atlanta was uneventful, but we were delayed leaving Atlanta by over an hour. Some storms popped up in the area, and we had to sit on the tarmac for more than an hour waiting for the storm to clear. Gabe and I spent most of both flights and sitting on the ground reading the books that we had brought along as part of our entertainment options. I ended up finishing my first book (Baby Proof by Emily Giffin) and had started my second book (Twilight by Stephanie Meyer). Gabe finished the book that he had been reading for a while (A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin). By the time we arrived in Seattle, we were about an hour and a half later than planned…and we were tired from traveling. We finally found our bags and finally found a cab to take us to the Westin hotel in downtown Seattle. The organization of the Seattle airport with the baggage claim and taxi line did not impress us!
We were very tired and hungry when we reached our hotel, so we gave up on our original idea of eating at one of the highly recommended restaurants that I had scoped out prior to leaving for the trip since it would involve another cab ride. We decided to find somewhere close to our hotel, and we tried to find something that wasn’t too expensive. Everything around our hotel, especially in close walking distance, is expensive. We settled on Icon Grill, which was across the street from the hotel. We wondered if they had a dress code because we couldn’t tell from the dining guide photos how nice the place would be…but when we arrived, our questions were quickly answered:

The meal was pretty good. My favorite part was probably the fried mac ‘n cheese that we had as an appetizer (and I thought only our part of the country tried to fry everything). I was about to fall asleep by the end of our meal, so we headed back to the room and I was asleep by 9pm. We were on about the 27th floor, but we could still hear quite a bit of the street noise. Fortunately, I was too tired for the noise to bother me too much on the first night. Unfortunately, I woke up at about 5:30am and was unable to get back to sleep…
Stay tuned for Day 2…
